All about: Brand Strategy (and why you need it)

When you think of branding, what comes to mind? A logo? A color palette? Maybe a tagline?

While those things are important, you should have more than just branding. I incorporate brand strategy into every branding project to make sure my clients’ business stands out and connects with your audience on a deeper level.

But what does that actually mean?

Let’s break it down! Here are the key areas I cover in brand strategy:

1. Competitor Analysis

Before diving into branding, I look at my client’s business in the context of their market. What are other businesses doing? What works, and what doesn’t? 🧐

I conduct a short audit on competitors’ branding, messaging, social media, and more.

Why do this?

It’s crucial to know your competitors. By understanding the market, you’ll be able to identify how you can stand out.

What’s your unique value? Why should customers choose you over others?

2. Target Audience Research

This is the most important step for me. If you can’t connect with your audience, your brand will fall flat.

First, I define the target audience in terms of demographics, values, goals, and needs. I make sure to keep it niche. 👥

Then, I dive deeper by researching the target audience’s buying behaviors, values, and communication preferences. Based on this, I create detailed audience personas.

Why do this?

By understanding your audience’s needs, desires, and behaviors, we can craft a brand personality that resonates with them. The more we empathize, the more we connect.

3. Brand Personality

Now we create a brand personality—actual traits based on audience research, the business’s mission, and its core values.

Why do this?

A strong brand personality draws your target audience in. By being consistent and true to your brand’s character, you build trust and foster customer loyalty.

4. Tone of Voice & Messaging

To bring the brand personality to life, it’s important to develop messaging that speaks directly to your audience.

What’s the tone of voice? Calm? Neutral? Excited? 🗣️

I create messaging guidelines to ensure consistency in how the brand communicates across all channels.

Why do this?

When your brand speaks with a clear personality, people are drawn to it. They’ll connect with your values, trust your brand, and be more likely to become loyal customers.
